Meet Your Primary Care Physician:
Your First Call for Care and Wellness
Once you are enrolled in Medicaid, you will be able to select your preferred plan from all those available in your area of the state. You can find out what plans are available to you by entering your zip code in the box on the left, and find out more about your options by clicking on the plans' logo at the bottom of this page.
Once you have enrolled in a plan, they will send you information about your benefits, and you will be able to choose a Primary Care Provider from their list.
It's important to choose a Primary Care Provider, since they will be your most important medical resource for all your care!
If you do not make a choice, you will be assigned a doctor by your plan.
As soon as you know the name of your Primary Care Provider (and your children's provider, if that is different) call for an initial appointment. This is the most important thing you can do for your and your children's well-being! You will:
- Establish a relationship so you know where to go and what to expect in case of an illness... and so your doctor will know you, as well.
- Get a general checkup to catch any problems early, and get a treatment plan for problems you have.
- For children, this is an important opportunity to "screen" for potential problems that can affect their future.
Once you have met with your primary provider, you'll start there whenever a problem arises. And remember: always follow your doctor's advice!
